FAQs Answered

Q. What is Freeview Playback?

A. A complete and utter shambles

Q. Do I have to buy a new box for Freeview Playback?

A. If you have purchased our current range of PVR then you will not need to purchase a new product as we will be updating these products for all of the new functions, not like some of our money grabbing competitors…..

Q. What are the functions of Freeview Payback?

A. Freeview Playback products will have all of the following functions:

1         Pause live TV

2         One Touch Recording (OTR)

3         Chase Play

4         EPG / Selection & Display (8 day on screen TV guide)

5         Tracking Changes

6         Recording Accuracy

7         Conflict Resolution

8         Runaway Recordings

9         Series Recording

10     Split Events

11     Alternate Instances

Q. Does my product have Freeview Playback functions?

A. Dunno – RTFM, or look for the logo on the box

Q. How does “Pausing Live TV work”?

A. Freeview Playback means the DTR product you have can pause Live TV for up to 30 mins.

Some PVR products allow you to Pause Live TV for up to 2 hours. When you need to answer the phone or make a cup of tea, take a pee, press PAUSE on the remote, when you return press PLAY; you will probably be confused as to what you have now done. Please note there is no point in pausing the lottery draw, running to the shop ‘cos you’ve seen the numbers, and having a dabble on them……numpty

Q. What is One Touch Recording (OTR) and how can I use it?

A., Press the RECORD button on the remote – that is the one with the RED dot….colour blind – take it back to the shop.

Q. What is Chase Play?

A. An in built exercise routine. When you start playback you have to run on the spot until playback stops. We recommend that you start with a programme of short duration, and over a few Days work up to a recording of a film or sports event.

Q. Are there any changes to the EPG and the way it works?

A. There are no changes, the EPG still monitors your heart as you perform chaseplay.

Q. Will it track any broadcaster changes in the times of programmes?

A. If a programme moves to a different time, day, or even channel the change will be detected and the programme you have selected will record…..maybe, this of course is wholly dependant on the broadcasters getting their act together….do not hold your breath.

Q. Will it Record accurately?

A. Only if you stand in a bowl of cold custard, balancing on one leg…..during testing we found standing on the left gave better results then the right.

Q. If I try to set several programmes to record and there are conflicts, what will happen?

A. An almighty punch up….probably the end result being SWMBO wins by a knockout.

Q. What happens if the broadcaster does not send a signal / or my recorder does not detect the end time?

A. A new function called “Runaway Recordings” is activated. We believe this to be a broadcasters cop out for cock-up’s.

Q. What is Series Recording?

A. If you select a programme to record and it is within a series you will be given the option to record the whole series or just the one programme, however there is no guarantee that this will work, as the broadcasters are yet again dragging their heels. After all they have only had 2 Years to get their act together…give ’em chance.

Q. What are Split Events?

A. We believe it is not advisable to attempt this until you have mastered chaseplay.

Q. What are Alternate Instances?

A. Ask SWMBO, girlfriend, female neighbour – they are all experts in this field….i.e. changing their minds.

Q. Do all broadcasters on Freeview send the information for all of the functions to work?

A. The only comment we can make is BE SERIOUS.

Q. How do I update my software to get all of these new features?

A. If you want to upgrade your software via a PC or Laptop please visit our website to download the latest software.

Although we do not recommend that you do this, as it will probably be to complicated for you.

Mac Users – Tough….nah,nah,nah

We will also be releasing an Over Air Download soon, to receive this update please leave your unit in Standby mode each night and the update will be detected automatically.

If there are any changes to this date then we will update this information. We will also be repeating this download numerous times next year in case some customers miss the first download.

Q. After I upgrade my software do I have to do anything for the features to work?

A. After upgrading your software you will need to carry out a Default setting:

1. Press MENU

2. Select Installation and press OK

3. Enter your password (Default = 0000)

4. Select Default Setting and press OK

5. Select YES and press OK

6. Enter your password (Default = 0000)

Note: The receiver will then restart and search for the channels again.

Important: When you carry out a Default setting no information on your HDD (recordings) will be removed. You will need to setup any schedules and any Favourites list you have

Q. With all of these changes, how will I know how to use them?

A. That is for us to know, and you to find out…..do we have to do everything for you…

Q. Will Freeview Playback mean I will get all of the programmes that I set to record?

A. PMSL….you’re aving a laff

* The Freeview Playback features are available on channels where the correct and accurate data is being broadcast. Some channels may not support all services, some may claim to support the service but the information might not get broadcast correctly. Sometimes the signals might not get broadcast at all because the broadcaster has designed their system badly. We just do as we are told.
